As my term of office as President of the Association comes to a close, I wanted to take the time to thank everyone for their efforts and support this past year.
It has been an excellent year for the Association, due in large measure to the volunteer service of our Board and committee members. We started the year with Holly Reilly at the helm, after a most successful first year as President. We learned in September that Holly would be leaving us for a wonderful opportunity at Froedtert Health in Wisconsin. Certainly our loss but their gain. While I agreed to step in for her, it was with the knowledge that the leadership team would be there to ensure that MHHRA continued its mission to serve the needs of the healthcare human resources community.
Our Board members, Mark Moody, Christine Nelson, Lori Spencer and Rebecca Strong, along with our special advisors, Sharon Kemp, Toni Shivery and Jill Updike, made my role as President easy. They are as knowledgeable and dedicated a group as I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing. And I would be remiss if I did not thank Brenda Kampes for her work on behalf of the Association for many years now.
We’ve also been very fortunate that our standing committees have continued to flourish. Beth Carpenter, Julia Farrell-Breit, Jessica Kohajda and Michael Hwang all provided service and leadership to make these committees beneficial to our membership. In addition, a new standing committee was formed. Karen Jones took on the responsibility for developing a Diversity & Inclusion Committee and has already garnered attention from our member organizations.
It’s also important to note that for the first time we had an Annual Conference Committee, charged with organizing and running our conference. My thanks to Toni Shivery for getting this committee going and Mark Moody for chairing the group. And a special thank you to the committee members – Dawn Dixon, Susan Harrison, Sharon Kemp, Christine Nelson, Shawnette Page, Nicole Silver, Cynthia Skillings, Lucinda Tattersall and Jill Updike.

The Maryland Healthcare Human Resources Association (MHHRA) is proud to sponsor annual scholarships to employees of MHHRA member organizations. Nominees must be currently enrolled in, or have completed a Human Resources certification course or undergraduate/graduate level course leading to a degree from an accredited institution in HR/Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field, since December of 2017. Additionally, nominees must have demonstrated one or more contributions and/or accomplishments in the field of human resources on behalf of their member organization to qualify.
